Just got my "new to me" YashicaMat F and need help with advancing film. What is the correct proceedure? My old C of years ago (I think that was the model) still used the window in the back. Now I need to know what to do with the crank only.

How many cranks on first exposure? Needless to say, no manuals with this unit! What happens with the crank? Does it lock? Does the little serrated wheel in the top measure film movement? Inquiring minds need to know.

at Dead Link Removed, I think I can see the counter window on the right side, above the film advance knob. If it works at all like my 124, just wind the advance knob until the 1 appears. It _probably_ should stop there.

On my 124, the serrated wheel does indeed count the number of frames that have gone by.

Not sure about the Mat, but on the 12 and the 124G there is an indicator marked on the body that indicates where the film start marking should align. When the film has been advanced to this point, the back is closed and wound until the #1 comes up in the frame counter window. If this is confusing to you PM me and I will try to confuse you even more.

Got it! Thanks a bunch. There is indeed a starting mark. I was checking it with the back open, and nothing clutches in till the back is closed. Thanks to all. Man, am I glad to have another MF Yashica. I actually missed my old one. And this one is twice as heavy as the old one too! Now I need a bigger gadget back for the Nikon, etc.....

Anyone got an old Braun flash they want to give me now?????

Tom (who is now definately in a retro phase)
