Are they the same? Should I pick one over the other? Why?

This is in reference to buying 3x4 film for my press cameras. Perhaps I should stick with Classic200?

They can't be the same since noone has produced ADOX films for over 30 years. Dupont let the rihgts to the ADOX name lapse recently, so the name now means nothing at all.

But EFKE (Fotokemika Zagreb) holds the original ADOX machinery and recipes, and make EFKE PL100 which is the closest you'll get to the old ADOX films.

Just to add to this mystery, I found this website www.adoxfilm.de Couldn't open it as a password is required.

I think there is a company in Canada that is also marketing an "Adox" film, just to add to the confusion.

In any case, Efke 100 is a nice film.

ADOX 21 and Efke PL100 are both made by Fotokemika for us. They are the same film emulsion. The Adox version is produced for us with stricter quality control and inspection requirements.

That's interesting!

Typically, how would the quality of emulsion differ from a sheet of ADOX versus a sheet of Efke PL100? Not that I am unhappy with Efke but for an extra few $, it's worth the better quality control.

I quickly perused you site and it seems that ADOX is only available in sheet film size of 7x17, are there any plans to stock other sizes or is it possible to order other sizes (8x20 or 11x14)? I'd be interested in trying it out.

Thanks,

Matthew

It's currently available in 3x4 and 7x17. 11x14 and 8x20 will be included in the next round. About 2-3 weeks.

On a typical sheet of Efke PL100 you will see no difference between the films. They are identical, made on the same line. The difference is in post manufacturing inspection and quality control. The Adox films are being subjected to additional inspection to further reduce the occurance of any manufacturing defects.

Unsolicited plug for JANDC:

FYI, I have recently found JANDC and made a few orders. Very quick delivery and prompt response on a technical question. I'll be buying more from them!

You are not the only one. I have only purchased from JANDC once, but it's because I bought 100 rolls of film (surplus Macophot UP100+), and I still have 20 of them.... When I run out, I'll come back for more, probably their Classic 200 or 400 line.

Anyway, they seem to have a following here in APUG, and they deserve every penny they get.

And I'm not saying this to get discounts. (please?)

Just kidding...
