this is my first post, and i was just wondering if anyone has used kodak camera 2000 film.

i was looking for a lith/ortho film to use in my darkroom, but didn't want to pay 100 bucks for ilford ortho 8x10's. so i came across imagesetting film, and that led me to this kodak camera 2000 film that's advertised as a high contrast lith film.

after talking to a kodak rep, he gave me some dealers, so i'll probably give Heidelberg a call this week for pricing and sizes.

anyways, has anyone used this film before? or has anyone used imagesetting film in their darkroom?

You don't inocate where in the world you are, but I believe Freestyle, in California do mail orders, and have an affordable house brand ortho lith film.

You need to be sure what you want. Ilford Ortho Plus is a great film which can be used at normal contrasts processed in D76/ID-11, and then contrast increased with different developers, it's very flexible.

High Contrast graphic arts films are quite different especially some lith films, and they will always give high contrast although some can be used with low contrast developers for alternative processes.

@Mike, i live in Vancouver. yeah, i've looked at the stuff freestyle has, but i don't think their house brand will be available forever. i'm kind of at the same time looking for something more of a permanent solution to where i can get lith film. besides, if this lith film is priced anything like imagesetting film ($100 for 12 inches by 200 feet) then i'll be saving myself a whole lot of money!

@Ian, that's what i had a feeling it would be like in terms of contrast. indeed some experimenting would be in order!

Oh - cutting down your own film. - no problem load yourself from a 100' bulk roll of 35mm; do it all the time.

I have worked at cutting down 14x17 lith to fit 4x5 holders. And with a reel to cut down 70mm Portra c-41 for rerolling 120 rolls onto re-used backer paper.

What a pain in the ass. There are some things worth spending money on. One is the right sized, at least to width film, to work with.
