Paul, Dave - let's go in on this together, and locate the enlarger in Rio Rancho. (lol)

WELL, That would give me a viable excuse to go to NM a few times a year!

LOL

Dang, you would have to move out of San Jose!

Then again, I can't see tempting people to come to San Jose.

Good luck on this one--I hope it doesn't go too high.

Cool! I just bid on it. Shelton is about a 45 minute drive from my house. I'm sure I'll have to ultimately bid more than my initial bid. Since I'm building an 8x10 camera, it makes sense to have this enlarger too.

Hey ya Creep........LOL

Hey Schwinn,

put it on a rack on the back of a pick up and have it double as a camera.....you won't have to build that 8 x 10 camera. :D

I think I bid something like 29 cents. If you bid in the neighborhood of $5 then you'll be in with a chance.

Now that is a serious freakin' piece of hardware!

Too bad it's on the wrong coast. I'd drive to Maine to pick it up, but WA is, ummmm... a bit too far <sigh>.

I have actually taken one of these apart, moved up 3 floors and re-assembled it. It was a 2-man job. It is quite heavy, there are probably 60lbs of lead counterweights in the main column, if not more. It comes apart in 3 main sections, the column, base and head. Each can be moved by 2 people but the entire enlarger is too heavy to be lifted by 2 people. He probably used a fork lift to move it himself.

It is amazingly solid and well-built. I loved working with it.

big hummer

Well, I can attest to their solid nature. I've got two of them, and had to
move both in here.

The larger version ( trust me, there is always a larger version ) was shipped
her to Ca. from the southeast ( many years ago ). Including the wood
crate, it was around 1,500 lbs.

When we set up the last one ( again, long ago ) I attached the counter
weights in the column to the frame for the head while the head was down.
When the weights were freed up, it shot the head frame- with me squating on
it - straight up the to the ceiling.

I'm probably only still here because the ceiling in that room was at 14'.

Ah the memories...

Your wife is gonna kick your ass. How you gonna fit that in a doghouse. Looks tempting though.

Well, we have 2 Bay Area people on this thread...Ralph, do you come back to San Jose ever?

I am sure I could swing it--

"Hey Honey, remember that big enlarger I got really cheap last year...then the free one that was even bigger this year? Well, there is a monster one on eBay. Just a few days to go pick it up and come back. Oh, yeah, you will never be able to use the garage again"

Not often, Matt. My son still lives in the SF Bay area, but it's about 18 road hours from Rio Rancho. (Having racked up over a million air miles in a three-year span of job-related travel, I no longer care much for the up-up-and-away, now that I'm essentially retired.)

BTW, I like your "Honey, I shrunk the garage" approach, but I'm not sure that it translates well in Venusian.

Oh ho! Hey now... If there's talk of an 8x10 enlarger co-op in the Bay Area, then I think we're up to 3 people.

Dean (who has been wondering if his wife would notice this thing in the living room...)

Now hold on there big fella! I can think of several of us here in Washington who would be able to put together a co-op for this enlarger... It's OURS!

John Berry, Barry Young, Mike Whyte... you guys can chime in any time how.

Guys? John?, Barry?, Mike?

Oh great.

Hey, I think it would look nice next to my Wing-Lynch processor.
