8 x 20 film availability

Does anyone out there know who has 8 x 20 film these days for sale? I've been scouting the websites of the dealers and I can't seem to find any.

There is a group of 8x20 shooters that is in the process of acquiring a special order of Adox 25 (same formula as Efke 25) at some decent pricing of about $6 to $6.50 per sheet. I will be sending out an update this week and the request for funds right after Christmas and we expect the film to be delivered in about four weeks from payment.

The template can be repeated for just about any format.

PL 100 is the only Efke/Adox film available for ULF from going forward. I like Efke 25 more and find that this film keeps in the freezer especially well. I pulled some Efke 25 that had been in my freezer for over five years and it was as clear as a bell. This is not the case with some PL100 that I used that was slightly past date.

Pl 50 is also nice and keeps very well. I have about 4 boxes 8x20 that is past date in the freezer and no sign of fogging. I like all the Efke/Adox films. I may interested in a couple of boxes of 25 Michael. Robert

UPDATE:

We put together a 13 box order (25 sheets per box) of Efke 25 in 8x20 last week and the film was cut the day after the order was place even before it was paid. What was perceived as a 4-5 week wait to receive the film will likely be about two weeks. I handed off the reins to to a 11x14 Efke 25 order and this should be announced shortly.

I'm not a ULF guy, 4"x5" is my biggest really right now, but just shows that Efke's on the ball!

whatever happened with Bergger? I know forte was supplying their film and are gone, but heard they were going to go to Ilford with their film recipe after that. Is that not happening, or going to happen?

OT: Has anyone tried using two sheets of 8x10 in one 10x20 holder? They could be held together in the middle with one or two tiny pieces of tape. Of course, this means scanning and digitally removing the seam and tape marks but... you could shoot color.

There is the alternative to use 9.7" spooled aerial film.

The disadvantage, next to cutting, lack of stiffness, and maybe curl, is that one has to buy at least 250'.

But one could place the rest of a roll in the freezer, and stack the cut sheets for a while to allow to set. To conquer lack of stiffness one could modify the holder.

^^^ Yes, but where might one buy it? I've looked for the Kodak 5" color neg full-range color (non-IR) and can't find it anywhere. This is what made me decide against buying a 5x12 camera.

Have you tried B & H. ?
I use 4 x 5 and have been thinking abt. getting the necessary things for 8 x 10.
But I am told that 8 x 10 ias becoming more scarce.

I don't think we'll have to worry about loss of 4x5 or 8x10 color film. I think those will be available in some form or another for several years. It's 5x7 color that's in the most danger of extinction and AFAIK no color ULF exists anymore.

B&H has no roll film wider than 70mm.

I know this is an analogue forum so I suppose I was out of place but thought the concept was good... being able to shoot 8x20 color I'm sure is appealing to at least a few here.

If someone wants to take the initiative to get up an order as Michael Kadillak did for the recent 8x20 B&W order, I'm sure color film could be had. Kodak's minimum order IIRC was $10,000 which isn't that much ULF film. It can be had, but no one wants very much at any given time, especially since there's more of a development issue with color.

The point is that film is made in master rolls, and if any film is available at all, then any format is at least theoretically available if you can convince the manufacturer to cut and package it in the format you want. Ilford and Kodak does this once a year at no extra charge for B&W, so there's no reason Kodak couldn't also do once a year color runs. But they won't do it for 5 boxes.

I believe kodak still sells 10" x 6' portra 160 cirkut film, which could be cut to 8x20 for the people willing to try. last time I heard you could get it by the roll around 40-50 dollars a roll

Steve... I didn't know any color larger film than 8x10 was still available... good to know. However, I have my doubts that enough interest could be generated to convince Kodak to pre-cut color 8x20. I could be wrong... often am.

Jamie... I'll look for the Cirkut film... never seen it though.

It's been quite a few years now, but William Corey bought an entire special order of 8x20 color neg from Kodak, for his own use.

Kodak will cut if you have the minimum order, no problem, as Oren mentioned William Corey doing.

You are correct about OUR interest. Michael's B&W order took a bit to get a 10-box commitment, I believe color would be less likely. People's comments in the forum are not a good indication of their willingness to make a purchase. A while back everyone was complaining (and still are) about Kodak only packaging in 10-sheet boxes for many emulsions, including Tri-X. So I started a thread to see if there was an interest in getting together an order for 50-sheet boxes - should be easy since Kodak already cuts 8x10 Tri-X. Not one person expressed an interest in a special order unless it was significantly cheaper.

So they didn't want it bad enough to pay the existing rate for it.
