I decided that today would be the day to figure out my light source. Headed out the door to go look for a nice sodium-vapor street light, but took the phone book and thought I'd call around to the printers in town to see if anyone had anything for sale.

Found the first one on the first phone call I made at the first print shop listed in the phone book. Saw a very clean NuArc 26-1K sitting in the back bathroom just grinning at me. I was so excited to have found what I was looking for I could hardly contain my enthusiasm. His price? $400. I went to the bank to get the cash, and on my way made some more phone calls.

Found another guy who said he had a table top unit and that I ought to come see it. He had an identical 26-1K for sale also. Price? $300! I didn't want to press my luck, so I snagged it up. The seller said he had another photographer who had spoken for it, but never had come to pick it up...so, it's now mine!!!

Just had to celebrate with those who would understand how excited I am for this! Hehe!

:D

Good for you, the 26-1K is great and you got it for a great price with the stand.

Get off the computer and go make some prints so you can post them...

Hmm, there are a bunch of printing places in the D/FW area. Maybe I'll make some calls next week....

Ok, here's the first print:

Dead Link Removed

Taken with a Deardorff V-8, 24-inch Red-dot Artar, printed on Somerset satin watercolor paper in Kallitype. 60 units (not sure how it's calibrated yet...) on the new 26-1K.

It's a bit dark, but this is straight off of my gut instinct and judging the exposure while it was printing.

Here's the unit:

Dead Link Removed

More prints to come...oh, and some questions about calibration too.

I have looked at the other thread and will try to follow Sandy's suggestions for calibration.

Hey Aggie,

It's AMT Printing & Digital Services. 801-468-1919. Ask for Michael, the press operator. You can tell him I sent you if you want. He likes CA$H, BTW.

I can pick it up for you if you'd like and you could get it at my place in Riverton if you can't get to SLC anytime soon. I don't think that Michael wants to deal with shipping or any credit cards, checks, etc...

Lemme know. :D
