Hi all,

I'm looking for some 1GB or 2GB SD cards to use with my GR1d as it will not recognize anything larger. I'm having a hard time finding them for a reasonable price online. Sandisk preferred if possible.

I can pay cash or trade Kodak Gold 100. Thanks!

I think I have 4 or so of them. Sandisk and all. They do all have my initials on them.

I'm sick right now, so give me a few.

Pm me what price your thinking.

The difference betweeen 1-2 GB and 4... GB is formatting style.
1-2 GB use FAT16
4-32 GB use FAT32

your device don't know FAT32 style formatting.
Theoretical limit for FAT16 is 2GB for 32k clusters and 4GB for 64k clusters.
So you maybe have luck and your device can know 64k clusters and the limit will be 4GB cards with custom format. Using default values in formatting software don't help so tou must tune the values in your software.
Cheers.

Thank you for the technical explanation! Unfortunately, I am not enterprising enough to mess with the GR1d firmware. It took me long enough to find an original one in decent condition and I do not want to brick it. Besides, file sizes are so small in jpeg that I've never filled a 1GB card in a shooting session.

I think what F4user was suggesting is to format a 4Gb card in your computer as FAT16 and see if your camera can read it

Ah, good call. Did some digging around but can only find my 16GB SD cards - attempted to format them as FAT16 and it gave me 2GB of usage. Would still rather have some dedicated 1GB or 2GB cards so this is still on the table.

How many do you need? I have HP branded 1GB SD cards. I have 5 available. You can have them if you pay for shipping.

OK, this is silly. If you want them, just PM me your mailing address.... Shipping will be something like $1.50. I'll eat it. I'll feel even better if you donate that to APUG. Your choice.

tkamiya, glad you were able to fix him up with some of the older style SD cards.

It looks like you got what you were looking for. I also use some older d*****l gear that can't use modern cards to full capacity. In hopes that it might help someone else with the same problem, here are my sources to get cheap (or free!) memory cards. KEH camera usually has a good selection of used cards for less than $10. My other, free, source is a local camera store who were quite willing to give me a handful of old 1gb and 512mb cards (which were quite expensive when new).

Micro-SD cards arent ballooning in space at the same rate as SD cards, so one can try them with adapters if needed

It's too bad, I have a handful of cards from 128M to 1G that were with an early point & shoot that died. Unfortunately, they are CF cards! (128M would hold about 6 raw files from my EOS gear!

It was my pleasure. I had those for few years in my junk drawer. I don't recall ever actually using them.
