The OP is not developing to the density that he desires. Look at the developer information sheet and increase the development. The Tri-X film is working properly, but it has not been developed to the desired density.
Favorites, for the right situation 30mm Fisheye, 38mm SWC and 100mm.
Most used: 50mm, 80mm, 100mm, followed by SWC and 250mm and SWC.
Least used 150mm because I do not take portraits.
Yes, for a long time color blind people have had successful careers sorting and matching threads and yarns. Each for the right color for them, can see differences that most people can not sense.
On the advice of my Hasselblad repairman, I fire each of my Hasselblad lenses 12 to 15 times at 1 second every three months, to keep each lens in operating condition. @Grim Tuesday have you ever done that? By the way, that should be done with all shutters regardless of brand.
I have used Portra 400 for many years, while it has a wide exposure latitude, stick to box speed until you have a good reason to vary from there stick to box speed.

In a word yes. Film has more dynamic range. HDR is a crutch that digital photographers use to make up for present deficiencies. If something moves in the field of view, it is game over without major recreating the scene.
God blessed Jimi Hendrix, he and Carrie Fisher are rare examples of people who produce new work after they were death. While Carrie Fisher, so far, has only been in one movie since she died, while Jimi Hendrix still releases new albums. Presley and Jim Morrison get your acts together!!
Of many darkroom techniques, Ansel Adams did not cut and past objects in his prints. He dealt with the negative as it was and worked on burning and dodging. He did not remove tails from dogs, like others did. So irrationally claiming that he would have used PhotoShop, are less than without...
Of course he was a "money grubber" which is why he instituted low cost prints of his work at his Yosemite studio which still prints low cost copies of his work I have several myself. Alan. you just got caught with your pants down!
