I am no talking about a studio or commercial environment, I am talking about my personal use. You must have missed the now bolded part of my original reply.
Well the start up costs matter to me, especially since the size of the GRBG pixels are so much larger than film grain. But would you please send several liters of what you drink or several kilos of what you smoke?
I have been doing film photography for sixty years.
I have all the cameras that I want and the lenses that I want.
I have the knowledge to use film cameras, develop film and print film.
I have a darkroom and equipment to develop and print both black & white and color film.
I can buy better...
My ex-mother-in-law when she got film back from being processed threw out the negatives first thing. When her husband died, she came to me in tears with a folded and worn photograph of him wanting me to fix it.
At lease they buy and shoot film.
Some of them with continue to use film.
A few, as always, will be motivated to develop film and a few of them will enter the darkroom.
I do not see a downside. When there was only film, very few did darkroom work. Be glad that they are interested.
Street photography lends itself to shooting wider than needed and darkroom cropping. Crop the subject closely and a slight movement will eliminate an important part of the composition.
I do not let a stranger take my camera and I would never put the neck strap over their head. Maybe if you had a Rollei, Hasselblad, press camera or a Leica, you would not be so cavalier.
My PME 45 has been working for over then years without a problem, however it cannot be calibrated the the Accumat D screen so I have to set the ISO at half the value. My Hasselblad repairman said the after many years working with the newer models and the instruction manual, it is still too hard...
I use the Jobo CPP2 for black & white and C41 color. I do not need the temperature control for black & white. I use the 3010 Expert Drum for 4"x5". I am very happy with the consistent results. I do not need an automated system, Samys Camera can do that for me.
At those prices send them for CLAs. Call KEH and find out what they would give for an estimate range with parts extra. Or just send them to KEH for a better estimate. Also Hasselblad in New Jersey.
Some of the springs in the C lenses are hard to get so repair and maintenance can become a problem. I have two C lenses because the price was too good to pass up. I personally do not like the ergonomics of the C lenses, but as others posted, if you are going to be photographing towards the sun...
