All three prints look good but I note that even "non IR" with a yellow needed a very low grade. It would seem that Rollei is intrinsically a high contrast film with concomitant difficulties. I note that you used red and got the near black skies which is what I'd have wanted with an IR film but I wonder if the clear air at those heights meant that a red filter on other films would have given the same black sky? Certainly I have got black skies and black water (the sea) with Ilford SFX and a 25 red filter

I base my question partly on other prints I have seen in, I think, the Rockies where even a yellow seemed to produce a near black sky which in the U.K. has never been possible for me

I learn a lot from your prints. Thanks for posting them

@pentaxuser Yes, it does seem a high contrast film. I believe it is actually the same emulsion as Rollei Retro 400S but I do not know for sure. I do like the look of it as compared to the usual Ilford films I use. I have taken a lot of photographs on this trip with Ilford Delta 100 and 400, Kodak TMax 400, Rollei IR and Rollei 400S in 35mm, 6x6 and 6x7. I used yellow as the default filter for most of the photos but also orange and occasionally red. I can report back as I have time to print. The reason for using a filter at all times was mainly due to the high UV at altitude. Without a filter the skies would be white and no contrast with snowy peaks. Also there is always some haze and longer (red) wavelengths can get through haze. I have also never achieved anything as dramatic in the UK. Presumably this must have something to do with the proportions of the different wavelengths in the light. In the Alps the filter has effectively filtered out almost all light that the emulsion responds to so that the sky on the negative is nearly as clear as unexposed film.

Thanks for the compliment. I am learning too and I am most definitely no expert! It's all good fun though.

Very handsome, Svenedin. 'Love the type of landscape.
