This is a photograph of 4 umbrellas. I have often wondered what other photographers thoughts on it are. I usually rate my prints from a stand point of how they perform in 4 ways; photographic beauty, composition, subject interest, and that indefinable quality of wonderment. I can usually decide how good my prints are but this one is hard to gauge, I guess that it would not have a universal acceptance but it would be enjoyed by some very much.
I think this could be an interesting study. Maybe just use the solid umbrellas on a more simple surface/background. IMO too much in the photo, looks a little like a exposure test photo.
Yes I can see how you would see an exposure test. but thinking that I wonder how I failed to get through to you about what I was looking to photograph. Let me create the scene. I was photographing my three single 80 something aunts when it started to rain, and my aunt Helen came out of the house with the umbrellas. It was a nasty short thunder storm that changed to bright sun light, my anut put them out to dry in the sun, I was not so much concerned with the geometric aspects, but to create the scene, the side of the stucco house with glass chips, the brick path to the garden, the flowers, the rubbermaid garbage can, umbrellas like flowers. I am lucky to know the scene I wish I could see the print not knowing too much about it, but that is our lot. My best prints are subtile and quiet, I hope they grow upon the viewer.
