Really just testing my scanning setup, but for some reason I've always liked this photo. Tuskeegee Avenue on the grounds of the former Chanute AFB, Rantoul Illinois. From December 2003.
Roger, unfortunately I didn't keep notes, but my standard practice is to meter on a part of the scene that is roughly midway between bright and dark (the area near the fire hydrant possibly), using that as my base exposure and then bracketing from there. Or, I might have metered on the reflection in the middle ground and gave a couple extra stops exposure. In scenes like this, bracketing is your friend. Thanks for the question and comments!
