Not sure whether this is arty or awful. Whilst hiking on a high altitude trail I turned a corner and saw this tree in silhouette (precariously rooted on an outcrop of rock). I knew I didn't have enough dof to have the tree and mountain in focus so I chose the mountain, same with exposure.
I think if the foreground had detail, it would have competed with the scene. Both the tree on left and rock outcropping on right make a terrific "window" to a gorgeous scene. Man, the Alps are so beautiful, aren't they?
Yes, but unfortunately due to the angle of the sun my side of the valley was in deep shade whereas the other was in bright sun. The film just hasn't got the latitude to deal with that. The alternative would have been a slow tripod exposure (did not have a tripod) which would have successfully exposed the tree but blown the mountain away. It was worth a go....
