Old fisherman

I saw this old fisherman struggling with some boxes of nets so I stopped to help him. After a bit of a chat about things and he agreed for me to take his photo. It was taken inside an old Pilchard shed where he kept all his fishing gear and it was pretty dark apart from one window which was letting in some great light.
This was the last frame on the roll and the only photo I managed to get, it was handheld at 1/60 so I walked away uncertain if it would produce a good negative.

and it did!

bewdy ... love the atmosphere and squares too ... excellent composition and great

Wonderful shot , lighting is really atmospheric. This is probably one for the archive - what we think of as quaint or even mundane today is the history of tomorrow, and with a BW print it could still be around in 100 years .

1/60, hand held? You should be a brain surgeon!! This is a beautiful portrait; it had its genesis in you helping the man. Maybe good karma helped with the shot! Seriously...it's fantastic.

Great portrait... it's hard, at least for me, made such a good one in the only attempt... if you can go back, bring a looot of film with you... you can made a great series with this subject.
