Took this recently in the inner western suburbs of Sydney. I was using old 779 & it seemed to have lost some of it's colour & contrast so I took this using minus compensation. This is a shop window on a main road however the window is covered up. I think it's not run as a shop anymore but people are living in there.
I really like it. The washed out colors and the painted idyllic scene of wild horses at rest, partly covered by the blinds along with the lighting, create an atmosphere between surrealism and gritty reality.
Thanks for the comments. Thank you Ari for your your sensitive response.
I have been working on a project to photograph the sad & lonely part of town. This was inspired by some actors I have been documenting. They work on finding different characters within themselves. They look for a character that is boisterous, self confident & extroverted. They also look for the opposite, which is insecure, neurotic, lonely, introverted. A person who would live alone in a small room, wear shabby clothes, have perhaps one friend, have obsessions that make them anti social. Once the actors find these characters they can give them names, histories, gestures etc that they can then access when performing. After watching this process I had the idea to make photos that express the world these characters exist in. So I've been wandering about the shabby, boarding house part of town & keeping my eyes open.
