When the submarine was raised the original batteries were recovered. These were sent to the original manufacturer (Chloride Industrial Batteries), cleaned up and found to be in full working order. Not bad after 69 years at the bottom of the sea!
Love to see these old boats. Even having served in submarines it's hard to imagine how tough the sailors were that sailed on these things. Thanks for posting the pics.
Glad that the pictures are of interest. It is very unusual to see such an early submarine. I can’t inagine how horrible it was to serve on her. These early submarines were notoriously unreliable and unstable. Not surprising when the internal combustion engine was in its infancy.
