24x30 (sorta) downtown Austin

24x30 (9 8x10s) wet plate collodion on aluminum.

another assemblage... they seem to be growing and multiplying like water being thrown on a gremlin.

Also... after varnishing the plates last night I set them all out on a big sheet of black illustration board and seeing them all "assembled" I was immediately reminded of the giant Jawa transport thing from the first Star Wars. :)
Location
Austin, TX
Equipment Used
8x10 and 19
Exposure
3-9 secs @ F16 for each plate
That is super cool. Do you have to have a portable darkroom to shoot wet plates? What are you going to do with the assemblage; are you going to mount it on a board and try to sell it?

Double wow. That's incredible, Matt!

Will you be making little mosaics soon?

Awesome. This is museum worthy stuff

the ground looks like a sea of silver.
i can only imagine this in person, what an impressive
body of work you are creating !

I love this grid; the tiling creates a wacky perspective, in turn, establishing a new architecture. Very nice.

thanks all.
BetterSense, yes I do have a portable darkroom that I shoot out of. Its set up out of the back of my Toyota pickup. I have a camper shell and a VERY crude and UNpretty box I work out of. You can see the front end/wheel of my white truck in the bottom most left plate. I've mounted/framed a few of the assemblages. Hopefully maybe have a show some time... and of course I'd sell them if someone was willing to pay enough.
Robert, I started making plates at about 9am and poured the last (top right) plate at around 230ish. Packed up and out by 245 or so.

Also thought this was kinda interesting and shows the strangeness that can start to occur with wet plate making out in the field. I make these assemblages in columns. I started with the bottom left plate... then the left center plate ... then the left top plate... creating each column of plates and then moving to the right. So the right most plates were last. You can see some waviness start to show up in the bottom right and center right plates. My developer was starting to flow badly because of a lack of everclear... likely due to evaporation.
This was the first top right most plate that I made and shows was can happen when you loss most of the everclear in the developer...

I added in couple cap fulls of everclear and the developer was much more agreeable.
