This is a negative I took Monday and developed yesterday. There is some "krinkling" of the substrate running vertically. It's not that obvious on the contact, but something is obviously separating from something else. Out of 4 rolls, two negatives show this, both on the same roll. This is the worst one.
I'm wondering if it's something I might have done or is it a film flaw?
No, it's nothing being exposed. You can physically feel it, and it's on the shiny side, not the emulsion side. I didn't notice anything strange in the winding, but I guess that's a possibility.
Do you have a microscope? If so, carefully examine this area with the scope in all levels and see what level has the imperfection. if the imperfection is in the substrate, then it is most likely a processing problem, probably a chemical one. If its in the emulsion, then it is probably also caused by chemical problems. I wonder if the film was touching itself on the film reel. A close examination with a scope will reveal a lot.

I don't have a microscope, but the "imperfection" is on the non-emulsion side of the film, and is quite obvious to the touch. I thought about the possibility of the film touching itself, but there's no sign of corresponding damage on any other negative - that damage would be on the emulsion side. As I said, there were two negatives affected, but the other one is not 10 % of the size of this one and also on the non-emulsion side.
Hmmmm sounds like bad film, after all. If you do not want to keep the film, send it along to Ilford, who will most likely be very interested in seeing it and having a go at figuring it out.

I'll send an email to Simon Galley referencing this thread to see if Ilford would like to see the negative. Maybe they'll be able to tell from the scan.
more than likely it is not it but if you develop in warm water or very cold water and shock the film with the opposite this may have caused the separation. just a thought.
