    Fall '11 Schedule Available!

Though the heat makes it hard to forget that summer's still not over, our fall schedule of photography classes and workshops is now available! We've added several new classes to get students out in-the-field and shooting under the guidance of our helpful instructors.

In After Dark: Night Photography, students will wait until the sun sets to explore Philadelphia with their cameras. The class will cover the aesthetics of night photography and technical issues of shooting in low-light situations. Each week takes place in a new location building up to a last shoot on Halloween!

We are also excited to offer a 5-week-class on Studio & Location Lighting. If you've been itching to introduce artificial lighting into your photography but don't know where to start or are intimidated by all the equipment, this class is a perfect jumping-off point.

We'll also be bringing many visiting artists to teach weekend workshops, including 2008 Guggenheim Fellow Greg Miller and Magnum photographer Eli Reed. See our entire schedule of Fall '11 classes and workshops on our website.

Friends of Project Basho 2011 Exhibition Opens

The Friends of Project Basho 2011 Exhibition opened last weekend and will be on view in our gallery until Friday, August 19. The show is an annual showcase of the diverse viewpoints held by Project Basho's community of students, members, instructors, volunteers, and staff and comprises 47 works by 28 artists.

Thank you to those who came out on Friday as well as to all of the participating artists! If you did not make it, see it for yourself in the coming weeks! Our gallery is open Sundays – Thursdays, 12 noon – 10 pm and on Fridays from 12 noon – 5 pm.

    Workspace for Photographers

Project Basho is not just a place to learn about photography; it's also a space to practice it. We have high-quality equipment and software for working with digital and analog media, and you don't have to be a current student to use our facilities.

Photographers can rent a digital workstation to process images using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom and print on our Epson 3800 inkjet printers. Our dedicated retouching station also houses an Epson V750 scanner as well as an Epson 9880 large-format printer with custom profiles to make beautiful prints up to 44" wide.

We also have one of the only community darkrooms in the Philadelphia. We provide everything you need to make gelatin silver prints; just bring paper and your negatives. If you are interested in platinum-palladium, gum bichromate, or other alternative processes, contact us.

Our rental lab is available to the general public at an hourly rate of $10 for the B&W darkroom and $12 for digital workstations. Additional costs apply for inkjet printing and alternative processes. Friends of Project Basho receive a discounted rate while students of our 5 and 10-week classes now have unlimited access to our studio throughout the duration of their courses.

Interested? Make a reservation online or give us a call at 215-238-0928.
